Brent- Work in Progress 1

Posted in Characters, Illustration, Sketches, Works in Progress on September 16th, 2008 by g-t3k

I think this is one of the best drawings from this series so far.  He took a little while to get down.  For a little while, it seemed as if nothing was coming out like I wanted, and I had to re-draw him over and over, but it was worth the effort.

The kilt was a spontaneous detail, but it was a nice touch that gave him a touch more personality.

Lisa Marie- Work in Progress 2

Here’s another pencil sketch for the design of Lisa Marie’s body.

I’m pushing her proportions further, and I gave her a new head.  She’s looking very much like an alien in this one.  In fact, she’s looking quite different than the original, but I swear I started out with the previous drawing in mind.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing at this stage.  I’m still trying to figure her out, and I don’t mind trying out different ideas at this point.

Lisa Marie- Work in Progress 1

When I originally drew Priscilla, I planned to do a series of sexy robot women based on concept cars.  I’m just finally getting around to expanding that lineup with this character, named Lisa Marie.

Ponyo on the Cliff Japanese Trailer

Posted in Culture, Movies on September 4th, 2008 by g-t3k

For my friends who aren’t in the industry, Hayao Miyazaki is not only a master of animation, but a master filmmaker as well.  His movies are some of the most delicate and imaginative works of popular art out there.  As expected, his newest film, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, is being picked up for distribution here in the States by Disney.

The story follows the adventures of Ponyo, a goldfish who dreams of being human, and his relationship with a five year old boy who finds him.  It’s an odd-looking movie, to be sure, but Miyazaki’s work is always a delight for children both young and old.  Check out the trailer below.

Trent- Head Sketch 02

Here’s a new head sketch of Trent, giving him more pronounced features, a stronger (somewhat bewildered) expression, and giving him more of an Asian flavor.
